This Workshop is welcome to educators, social workers, and others who desire to become more empathetic to social issues. Get a glimpse of the daily lives of the drug addicted homeless as you explore Penn Museum’s newest exhibit Righteous Dopefiend: Homelessness, Addiction, and Poverty in Urban America. Learn how area youth use art to challenge people’s negative perceptions of “bad” Philadelphia communities. Meet advocates for tolerance and social health who have explored sensitive topics with students. Learn how you can discuss social issues, such as homelessness, poverty, and drug abuse, in the classroom. Participate in a hands-on art project facilitated by MYX: Multicultural Youth eXchange. Co-sponsored by Camden County College.
Pennsylvania Musuem of Archaeology and Anthropology is located at: 3260 South Street | Philadelphia, PA 19104 | (215) 898-4001
Second Sundays at the American Philosophical Society
Wiggly Worms, February 14, 2010
Charles Darwin’s last book was all about worms. He was fascinated with these wiggly critters! Join teaching artist Shelley Hedlund of the Multicultural Youth eXchange, who will help you create your own worms out of painted paper. And learn more about the creatures themselves and Darwin’s fascination with them inside the Dialogues with Darwin exhibition.
This Second Sunday is a collaboration between the APS Museum and MYX: Multicultural Youth eXchange. Second Sundays are family-friendly afternoons (for ages 5+) at the APS Museum, featuring activities and/or demonstrations inspired by the Dialogues with Darwin exhibition.
