8th Annual Youth Development Conference to Inspire Community Action
December 12, 2008 

This was MYX's first year attending this Philadelphia based conference, a forum for young people to learn how to create real solutions to the many challenges in our communities. We were asked to create a visual poll in which student participants were asked two questions: 1.) What is the biggest problem facing Philadelphia today? and 2.) What is the solution to this problem?

2008 Delaware Valley EarthForce Youth Summit
April 16-17, 2008

MYX participated in the annual Delaware Valley EarthForce Youth Summit at the Philadelphia Zoo to help celebrate the Year of the Frog. MYX's on-site project, Frogigami, focused on frogs as bio-indicators of the health of endangered wetlands around the world. Students created six Styrofoam continents and decorated them with origami frogs and stamped images of environmental threats.

National Youth Leadership Conference
April 9-12, 2008

MYX attended the National Service Learning Conference in Minneapolis with students from New Foundations Charter School to do an on-site service-learning project aimed at raising awareness for South Africa's AIDS crisis. During the conference, NFCS students handed out information about South Africa and HIV/AIDS and helped other youth conference attendees create positive message T-shirts for South African AIDS orphans. Over 100 T-shirts were hand-painted and assembled into a temporary installation in the exhibit hall, then donated to Cape Town Child Welfare in South Africa.
