Art 2 Change Workshops & Residencies
Under the close guidance of a professional teaching artist, MYX’s Art 2 Change Workshops & Residencies incorporate service learning, character education and peace studies to help students explore diverse cultures, diverse viewpoints and common human interests through the lens of visual, audio, performing and literary arts. Uniquely all A2C Workshops & Residencies culminate in a collaborative art project, empowering students to make a change in their schools, their communities and beyond. Y PHILLY: A Youth Identity Art Exchange
Y PHILLY: A Youth Identity Art Exchange is an annual initiative connecting one school in Philadelphia with one foreign school partner as they engage in an exchange of youth identity artwork. This international art exchange creates an opportunity for the understanding of other cultures and promotes tolerance of diverse people.
Participating students are asked to express positive aspects of their local city and youth culture in an original work of art. Once completed, the artwork is swapped with artwork created by the partner school.
In previous years, the Y PHILLY project has partnered Philadelphia students with Incheon, Korea; Tel Aviv, Israel; Caracas, Venezuela and Istanbul, Turkey.
The Art of Community Service is a unique summer travel program that pairs American students with their youth peers from developing communities as the collaborate on an art-based community-service project like a large scale mural or recycle-based renovation. Since 2005, MYX has taken ACS teams to La Isla de Chira, Costa Rica; the Andean village of Ambatillo, Ecuador, the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona, and Vanadzor, Armenia. MYX collaborates with a variety of community organizations in Philadelphia and beyond to provide an art-based, multicultural component to their core programming. Check out our special projects page for more information.
