Give Back To MYX

We are a nonprofit organization

and a large part of our ability to

provide high quality programming

comes from individual donations.

Your generosity is critical to our

ongoing success. Donate a gift in

support of MYX.

MYX: Multicultural Youth eXchange is a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping youth explore cultural diversity and social issues relevant to all people. MYX uses the creative, collaborative nature of art to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to be empathetic, engaged and socially-responsible citizens at home and around the world.

MYX was founded in direct response to the tragedies of September 11, 2001. It is our belief that culturally-sensitive youth are the hope for a future society free of intolerance.

WHY ART?

In a shrinking world with expanding cultural biases, violence and war, it is essential to dispel ignorance about different cultures and increase sensitivity toward diverse peoples. Because art is present in all cultures and communicates universal feelings and interpretations of the physical world we all share, MYX uses it in a central way to enlighten young minds to the fundamental common interests that all humans share.

CHECK OUT OUR INTERACTIVE INTERGENERATIONAL QUILT!

Common Threads
In partnership with NewCourland Elder Services
March-May, 2008

One-hour weekly intergenerational workshops were taught at seven different nursing homes in the NewCourtland network over a 10-week period. Pairs of inner-city high school students and elders discussed their cultural commonalities, then collaborated on individual quilt squares on this theme. Quilt squares from all seven sites were eventually sewn into one large quilt and a companion “virtual quilt” with accompanying student and elder voice recordings was created on-line.
